| Amazon.com customer | 2008-10-30 | | Great camera to jump from film or P&S to DSLR | 10 | NR | NR | NR | NR | | | | Helpful? | I've had the photograpy bug for a little over 40 years. I started out with a Nikkormat FT in high school. 15 years later I bought a Nikon FM. I still own both and they still work just fine. I've owned several point and shot cameras along the way also but have wanted to make the jump to a DSLR for quite some time. I had a wish list for quite a while that originally had the D40 but updated it to the D60 when it came out. My loving spouse took the list, did some research of her own and surprised me with a D60 kit containing the 18-55 & 55-200 VR DX zooms for my birthday in August. What a keeper I married :) I have to say that I am absolutely happy and amazed with this great little digital beauty. It works great with my older Nikkor lenses and the 2 DX VR lenses are wonderful too. The various "auto" modes work great when you want to let the camera do some, most or all of the work, OR need a quick shot and don't have the time to do more than compose. The manual mode allows complete control for those with the experience or beginners who want to learn by experimentation. The small size might be a problem for a large-handed individual, but it fits my medium sized paws to a T. The 10.2 megapixels, large ISO range, 3 metering methods, multiple shooting modes and huge range of Nikon accessories and Nikkor lenses make this a great platform for the beginning dslr user as well as the more experienced. And the price at Amazon with both DX VR lenses is a great deal. One more thing. The manual from Nikon is thorough, but not well organized or illustrated. Because of that, I recommend that you also buy the "Nikon D60 (Focal Digital Camera Guides)" by Corey Hilz. It's far better organized and illustrated, has a great quick start section that will get you up and photographing in just a few minutes and has great tips and techniques from Corey, who is a great photo pro and shows how to use all of the great features this camera has. Well worth the current $13.57 price tag on Amazon and can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0240810686

I just need more time to learn about it all. Ace Photo was great on shipping it to me and I received some things that I didn't even know where included in the package. I ordered the Nikon D60 to get better shots of the grand kids and as an added bonus getting action shots of my nephew's football games. Being an amature in the photo game this camera has been an easy one to set up and learn how to use. The many settings are easy to learn while referencing in the manuel is well laid out. The pictures have all been of good quality and the D60 far exceeds what I expected. In the future for any camera needs I will use Amazon and Cameta Camera. | Satisfaction | Score |

He is very happy with the D40 but being a big brother and wanting more I decided to go for the D60. I am glad I did. The D60 takes better photographs than any of my 35mm cameras. If you do not like the photographs just delete. After speaking with my brother about cameras, he suggested to purchase at Amazon.com. He said he saved alot of money purchasing his camera there. I checked all camera stores for the D60 and found I saved over $200 on just the camera and lens alone. All the accessories were free. What a deal and a fantastic camera. | Satisfaction | Score |

The D60 is my first DSLR camera I'm actually wasn't into photography that much, I just bought it because i asked a friend i want to take a quality pictures for my family because i had a regular annoying Casio camera which makes dots/noise in the pictures and ruins the moment of the photo, Any way he told me do you want the same photography as you see in the magazines or billboards i said yes i actually thought that all those pictures was like impossible and you need like i dunno graphic designer to do the work for you to make it so clean and sharp as they look and MAN I WAS WRONG.. 1st day i bought this camera i took my 1st shot and i was like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW i never had a DSLR camera before i hate taking pictures but with this camera the first week i took over 13,000 pictures can you believe that awesome camera awesome quality and the help menu tought me a lot about photography i didn't even know anything about photography like what is ISO, Exposure etc.. it kept explaining everything in the menu and I'm here now buying the new D90 waiting for this babe to arrive. Nikon makes the photography impossible to resist everyone this camera is worth every penny now i watch videos on You Tube and trying to learn and I'm buying bunch of lenses which costs me over $5000, it's hilarious actually, but i loved photography i keep taking shots for everything and i have like 700 GB hard disk full of pictures shot with my D60. Please If you can afford it buy any lens than the one included the recommended is the 18-200 Nikon lens much better and have a very deep zoom and buy the 50 mm Nikon lens it's awesome for portraits shots and very very sharp. I can't believe my self talking about lenses and cameras but it's worth it i loved and you'll love it.. Good Luck with your D60 ;) P.S. I uploaded some images i shot with my D60 you'll find it in the customer images section but beware that pictures quality are much better than what you see here in amazon because amazon crops and compress the picture very bad which ruin everything in the picture. I also use a Mamiya 645 Pro TL and Zenza Bronica ETRS II medium format cameras for special situations. In the past, I've used a Canon EOS 850 and many other cameras. Nikon is my professional choice! I bought my son-in-law a Nikon D60 since he's interested in photography. I put it through its paces, and confirmed this is an excellent camera that can handle even the most demanding jobs. The high ISO with low (no) noise is very nice, allowing some great hand held shots with either deep depth of field or relatively high shutter speed. I like so many of the features of this camera, I may carry one when not lugging my huge D2Xs for assignments. This camera is small and light, but packs a lot of professional level features. | | | | | | | | Amazon.com customer | 2008-09-11 | | Very versatile compact dslr | 10 | NR | NR | NR | NR | | | | Helpful? | I've had the d60 for almost a week now and so far, I'm very happy with it. For a first-time dslr user, the d60 is very easy to use in auto mode. But the manual features it comes with allows me to learn how to take better pics and improve my photo skills. I'll definitely be able to grow with this camera. The build quality is excellent and it feels just right in my hands. The pics it takes are amazing. I tried the D40 at a local store and compared the pics to this one before buying as I've read that the d40 has better pic quality due to the lower mpegs (sounds a bit odd I know), but I couldn't tell the difference. I'm sure to a more trained eye, maybe the difference is more pronounced, but for me, the d60 pic quality is more than sufficient. Plus, I know some have said the AF is slower on the d60 and that the VR feature is not worth the extra $, but I disagree. The AF is bit slower from what I could tell, but not so noticable that it became a problem. Also, I purposely shook both cameras while taking some shots to see how well the VR works and it works really well. The d40 image obviously came out blurry (due to not having any auto stabilization), but the d60 one was as if I was holding still. All in all, I'm very glad I bought the d60 and as long as the camera holds up, it will be with me for a long time. Besides, the Amazon price for the normal VR kit version is very reasonable now so the $ difference isn't as much as it was when the d60 first came out. One thing to note, I've found that though the kit 18-55mm lens is fine for indoor use or close-ups, at least a 55-200mm lense will become a necessity if you do a lot of outdoor shooting, especially of things that are far away, so I'd recommend getting a bundle that comes with both the kit lens (18-55mm VR) as well as the 55-200mm VR lens. I should have done that myself, but thought I wouldn't need it right away. Well, I'm buying one already and it would've been cheaper to buy them together. Oh well...

| | | | | | | | Amazon.com customer | 2008-09-10 | | Great camera, many great features | 8 | NR | NR | NR | NR | | | | Helpful? | The main thing purchasers should be aware of on this camera is that it does NOT have a digital view-finder/preview. All photos are shot through the eye view finder. This can be inconvenient if you need to hold the camera above your head, say, in crowds, or at ground level to capture a small animal or child. That said, the camera is fairly light and simple to use. Controls are intuitive and some in-camera editing can be done (cropping, and lightening up dark areas, plus some filter effects). The photos are very good, but use the manual focus in dim situations if at all possible. And spend plenty of time learning the features. It's a Nikon. It's a quality camera. And Amazon had the best price for a reliable seller of any place I could find. On that: beware those "gray market" sellers at all costs. Unless you buy hundreds of dollars of over-priced extras, you'll never see the camera, and they'll have your credit card information. You can trust Amazon, always. | Satisfaction | Score |

The product was delivered on time, as advertised and packed very well. I am not a complete amateur but fairly new to non point and shoot digital cameras, this camera is excellent and the price is exceptional (actually it's $30 cheaper now). | | | | | | | | Amazon.com customer | 2008-09-02 | | I should've bought this one instead of the more expensive D80 / this is a 2008 BMW M3 and the D80 is the 2002 535i | 10 | NR | NR | NR | NR | | | | Helpful? | If you want a Nikon SLR and don't plan on photographing bullets in flight...., then take this D60 instead of a D80 and save some dollars. There are too many great and detailed reviews of this camera for me to describe the technical advantages. We own a D80 and I just finished borrowing a D60 for two weeks and can't tell the difference in quality. The D60 is also closer to the old Nikon F4 which was a legendary 35mm camera released in 1988 and just another REMINDER to the world why Nikon is a top line camera. All Nikon SLR's have the same body style, rubberized exterior for grip and the same aperture and shutter speed controls thumbwheels in front and behind the shutter button. This camera is just as good as the $200 more expensive D80 and differs only in the smallest ways. In fact, since the D60 was released two years after the D80 it has some better features. +D60 has star filter effects included as an in camera retouch feature, the older D80 only has basic lighting and filter retouch effects. +D60 has built in "animotion" effects included as in in camera retouch feature, this allows you to string together exposures as a flip book animation effect. / This is a hokey feature of the D60 and people buy Nikon for still photography, not video. The D60 and D80 have the same set of controls and LCD readout photo browser and menu functions on the rear body and inside the viewfinder, they have the same shutter speed and ISO range. They both have the same 10.2 megapixel resolution and high quality CCD sensor. The D80 has an LCD Control Panel to the right of the bridge and behind the shutter, although it does its best to display all camera settings it is still incapable of displaying every camera setting relevant to the shot in just one screen and it is useless when using the camera in Auto, Aperture or Shutter priority modes. The D60 displays all of this info on the rear LCD and it is easier to read since it isn't as basic as an traditional calculator LCD of the D80 Control Panel. It seems the only features the D80 has is the preview mode button which is a feature well used from the film days and would let you see the shot at the set aperture. This was helpful to keep you from wasting film but this isn't a concern in the age of digital and a 2GB SD card can hold over 2,000 exposures in basic exposure mode so feel free to waste away ! The D80 seems to have 3 exposure burst modes and a decent bracketing mode, but those are more often used features for NASCAR fans and lunging return spikes at the volleyball net. The D60 focuses just as well and quickly as our D80, the flash fires just as brightly, rapidly and recycles just as quickly and the exposures are just as clear as our more expensive D80. Comparing this D60 to the D80 is like comparing the BMW M3 (D60) to the BMW 535i (D80), the D60 is sportier, less inundated with un-necessary junk and streamlined for useage instead of extra features many people don't need. | Satisfaction | Score |

| | | | | | | | Amazon.com customer | 2008-08-30 | | A great camera, but dont' forget the memory card | 8 | NR | NR | NR | NR | | | | Helpful? | First, don't ever buy a camera without holding one in your hands. Both Nikon and Canon make great cameras. The difference boils down to what you are comfortable with. I like the Nikon and got the D60 because I wanted something that I could hold with one hand (used for outdoor photography). Otherwise, I would have gotten the D80. If you are new to digital SLRs, the menu system can be quite intimidating. Don't let that influence your decision as you will get used to it. You can take pictures immediately using the auto mode and worry about the menus later. Important note: You need a memory card to do anything. No memory card, no picture (it does take the picture, but nothing is saved). Memory cards are cheap. I got a Kingston 4 GB SDHC Class 6 card for $14.95 (Class 6 is the best). The camera comes with a US warranty. As for long lenses, I got a Sigma 70 - 300 mm tele-macro instead of the 55 mm - 200 mm Nikon lens. There's no autofocus or VR, but it's not important to me. What's important is getting the extra 300 mm with a macro capability and good quality optics. You can fill the frame with a spider at 2 feet with this lens. | Satisfaction | Score |

I ended up with this D60 outfit and could not be more delighted! (How I decided was which kit had what I was definitely going to purchase anyway; except for Tiffen and polarizing attachment lenses which I was going to purchase regardless, so I didn't consider them as a kit essential.) As far as the camera goes, I am still discovering it's abilities. I have a sister who has 4th stage breast cancer and I went to visit her last weekend. I wanted pictures of her but I did not want to be conspicious or to violate her comfortability level with a camera. We were at the beach and she was sitting in a chair, next to her husband with a big hat on and I didn't want to single her out to get a close up so I yelled from the waters edge, 'Hey you two!". They both smiled and waved and I got a nice distance shot. I was disappointed that I was standing a little too far away; wishing I could capture just a few more of her beautiful and certainly changing smiles. I started playing with the camera and before I knew it I had a perfect face shot of my sister with her beautiful smile and I managed to be perfectly subtle about it. To me, I could have spent a gazillion dollars on my camera and to have caught that beautiful photo without making her uncomfortable about it made it worth every single cent I paid for the camera kit. I haven't even used the zoom lens yet! This camera has so much potential, I look forward to discovering everything there is to know about it! Also, do not have a hesitation about Cameta Camera. My husband and I have dealt with them many times and we have never once had the slightest problem. Delivery is prompt, complete, and you'll actually want to leave a review! | | | | | | | | Amazon.com customer | 2008-07-29 | | Fantastic Images, Lightweight and Well-Built | 10 | NR | NR | NR | NR | | | | Helpful? | This is a great camera, and don't let anyone tell you it's only for beginners. The images that the D60 produces easily rival that of more expensive cameras. When you spend less money on the D60, you are sacrificing a few bells & whistles but not necessarily image quality. It has all the manual settings you'd expect in an SLR and a very easy-to-navigate (and nice-looking) menu system. The LCD screen is big and bright, and the viewfinder is great as well. What it's missing (at least when compared to higher end models) and why you don't necessarily need those things: - No auto-focus on non-AF-S/AF-I lenses. Unless you already have a bunch of old Nikon lenses, this shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure any lens you buy in the future is an AF-S or AF-I. - No Live View. This is only just becoming standard on higher end cameras and on the ones I have tried I have found it very "clunky" anyway. "Live View" is a hallmark of compact point & shoot cameras, and I think that's where it belongs... at least for now. SLRs are just made for shooting with the viewfinder. It just feels better on a camera like this. If you *need* Live View, look at the Sony SLRs. They seem to implement that feature best. - Only 3 auto focus points. The D80 has 11, the Canon XSi has 9, blah, blah, blah. Three is enough for most people... heck, one is enough for most people. Yes, having more is nice, but honestly if you are a beginner and don't understand what the benefit of more AF points might even be, you don't need them. - No exposure bracketing. A helpful feature for making HDR images, but even then it is not necessary. Those are the biggies. I have my own little nit picks, like: - No dedicated buttons for ISO or white balance (you can program the Fn button to do it, but it's nice to have a seperate button). - RAW+JPEG setting only allows you to record a "basic" quality JPEG. - The ViewNX software supplied with the camera sucks for processing RAW images. If you are going to shoot RAW, get something better like Nikon's CaptureNX, Adobe Camera Raw for Photoshop or Lightroom, or something similar. If those aren't in your budget, RAW Therapee is a great open source RAW processing application. It's light years better than ViewNX in this regard, and it is 100% free of charge! Now for the major perks: - The D60 inherits features like Active D-Lighting and Expeed processing from the (much more expensive) D3 and D300 pro SLRs, which the D40 and D40x do not have. Look those things up to see what the benefits are. D-Lighting is subtle, but effective. - The new kit lens with VR (vibration reduction, Nikon's term for image stabilization) which allows for sharp pictures in lower light conditions when using slower shutter speeds. The D40/D40x have a non-VR version of the same lens. In my opinion, this is the best "kit" lens when compared to what the competition is currently offering (in terms of overall image quality). - Auto focus assist lamp. Trust me, it's a simple little thing but you'll love having it. - FAST auto focus (even with those three piddly AF points =) - Big, bright LCD and viewfinder. - Superb build quality. Feels much more "pro" in your hand than it's plastic-y competitors. - Great high ISO performance. Perfectly usable shots at ISO 1600. ISO 3200 is worse, but you could still use it in a pinch and get decent results and small prints. I've printed a couple 8x10s from ISO 1600 shots that look fantastic. - Which brings me to the most important feature: stellar image quality. Go find sample images online and see for yourself. Forget those chart & graph test shots. Look for real-world samples of real people/things -- that's where you'll really be able to see the D60 shine! I love my D60. I have been shooting with it every day since I bought it a month ago and have no regrets. It truly is a great camera to learn on for the SLR beginner, but is just as good for those of us with a little experience who are on a budget and don't see the above "cons" as deal breakers. Just buy the thing and go make some beautiful photos! | Satisfaction | Score |
